The Practices Of Qualitative And Mixed Research - 2238 Words
Abstract In this paper I will discuss and explore the practices of Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed research. I will examine the strengths and limitations of each methodology. I also intend to identity what scholars believe is needed in order to create a research study and what they identify as good research. Finally, I will examine ethical and diversity issues researchers come across when conducting research such as: respect for persons, Beneficence, Justice, Cultural Competence and Informed Consent. Quantitative Research mainly focuses on gathering mathematical statistics to explain a phenomenon. According to Locke, Silverman Sprirduso (2010), there are five statistics that are used by researchers: descriptive, correlation, and quasi-experimental/experimental, single subject and meta-analysis. Each subcategories technique is used in Quantitative to describe something about the study. The intention of descriptive is to explain a sample on a specific variable. Subsamples can also be defined on the same variable (Locke, et. at 2010). Some of the frequently descriptive research formats consists of the following: Survey research, political polling, and Delphi surveys. The purpose of correlation is to anticipate a standard variable, or to examine a model of the interrelationship between variables consumed to predict a variable (Locke, et. at p.95). This view is based on the fact that euthanasia should be administered if it leads to the greatest good for all concerned (Deigh, 1998). However, there exist serious flaws in the argument, particularly due to the fact that the ââ¬Ëgreatest goodââ¬â¢ is often evaluated in terms of material benefits while the sanctity and gift of life cannot be expressed in similar terms. A terminally ill patient may be evaluated on the financial costs caused to the family, pain and suffering, and the scope and nature of the ailment, but these factors do not form the basis for calculating the net value of life since life is God- given. In equal measure, individuals cannot sit back and evaluate the total good of destroying a life since life cannot be replaced once it has been taken. Several religious doctrines also teaches us that there is no greater good in life than the right to life, thus there is no justification whatsoever for its premature termination (Smith, 2006). To terminate life prematurely is to play God and the victim of a terminal illness cannot attain any greater good when life has already been taken. Consequently, utilitarianism cannot be used to justify the act of involuntarily or voluntarily ending life to reduce suffering. It is a futile exercise for physicians to adopt the utilitarian argument that assisting the terminally ill to die has better consequences than assisting them to lead more palatable lifestyles for the rest of their remaining days. Conclusion From the discussion, it is evidently clear that the adverse social, moral, and medical ramifications of legalizing physician-assiste d death far outweigh the benefits (Deigh, 1998). There is no greater benefit that an individual can get in this world than the right to life, thus the debate that physicians should be allowed to assist the terminally ill patients die fails to hold any water when ethical, religious, and the medical practice standards are considered. Instead of playing God and deciding on when and how to end the lives of the terminally ill, physicians must direct their efforts towards ameliorating the various risk factors that drives patients to yearn for death. The fact that many patients do not have a true desire to die when they request for euthanasia have been well demonstrated. The risks of feeling guilty and strained in the face of conducting mercy killings for the terminally ill may choke careers, not mentioning that the act of euthanasia puts the medical practice in a credibility test. It is God who gives life and it is only God who has the right to take it away. The dangers of abuse are just too many, and allowing the practice may set a bad precedent for society members and individuals suffering from terminal ailments (Karlsson et al., 2007). Lords of the Rings Who was the title character (describe thoroughly): The title character is a hobbit named Frodo Baggins (one of Bilbos younger cousins and also his favorite). Frodo is a Brandybuck and a Baggins. Frodo and Bilibo have the same birthday (September 22). Since Bilbo and Frodo had the same birthday and Frodo was Bilbos favorite, Bilbo decided to ask Frodo to come to live with him so they could celebrate their birthday together. The Fellowship of the ring Frodo receives the ring. The way Frodo receives the ring: Frodo gets the ring from an envelope that Bilbo gave Gandalf and Gandalf gave Frodo. Bilbo did not want to give up the ring but Gandalf took the ring. After Gandalf took the ring in the envelope he gave it to Frodo and told him ?what ever happens do not put the ring on?. That's how Frodo got the ring. Who are the main characters, and what are their roles: The main characters consist of Sam Gamgee, Marry Brandybuck (a man not a woman), and Pippin. These three hobbits made a conspiracy, which was because after Bilbo vanished the three became suspicious. Sam was their spy because it was easy to spy for Sam. The reason it was easy for Sam to spy was because he was Frodos house keeper, so when Frodo and Gandalf talked, Sam could stop mowing, trimming the flowers or what ever the case may be and listen to the two talking. Their roles are: Sam's role is a hobbit that wanted to see Elves and got to see them. Also Sam saved Frodo, Pippin, and Merry in the ?Old forest?. Pippins role is a hobbit that thinks he knows it all, and saved them from farmer Maggot. The way he saved them from farmer Maggot is that farmer Maggot hates trespassers and sends his dogs after them, but farmer Maggot knew Pippin and was fond of him so they were not tore apart. Mary's role is a hobbit and a leader ( when Frodo was not). Merry was the leader oF the conspiracy( or at least it seemed that way). I like Merry the best all three because he is not an idiot like Sam and he is not Self centered like Pippin. I like Pippin the least. Tell about the story: At first Bilbo lived alone until he invited his cousin Frodo over to live with him. Frodo accepted his invitation. They celebrated their birthday together every year. The last year they celebrated their birthday together was when Frodo turned Thirty three (the first year male hobbits enter manhood). On that night Bilbo made a speech and then disappeared ( put the magic ring on )? Just as Bilbo and Gandalf had planed. The reason Bilbo and Gandalf planed this, is because, Bilbo wanted to die in peace? So he and Gandalf made a plan. When Bilbo left he left every thing Frodo? Except for the ring. Bilbo did not want to give up the ring and Bilbo got angry when Gandalf tried to take it but Gandalf also got angry and made Bilbo give him the ring. At the time when Gandalf had taken the ring from Bilbo, Bilbo had already began to say things like: ?My precious, yes! My, my precious!? When Gandalf took the ring it was in an envelope with Frodo's name on it. The reason it h! ad Frodo's name on it, is because Frodo was Bilbo heir and Bilbo was going to give the ring to Frodo, but he had second thoughts? Until Gandalf came. After Bilbo left, Frodo stayed in The Shire fore a few more years. But while the years passed Gandalf found out many things about the ring. Gandalf told these things to Frodo and also told him that the ring was evil and that he had to travel to Mt. Doom in Morador where he could destroy it. On his way to Mt. Doom He met people like Tom Bombadail, Strider, and Mr. Butterbur. Also on his way when he stops in Buckelbury to leave Pippin (or so he thinks). How to Make a Colored Campfire A campfire always adds warmth and excitement to an outdoor experience, but you can easily kick it up a notch by coloring the flames. There are several ways to achieve the effect, so you can choose one that works best for you. Sprinkle Chemicals on the Campfire You can buy little packets of chemicals to sprinkle over a campfire to make colored flames, but its easy to make these yourself. Simply add chemicals to a zipper plastic bag and add them to the fire. Its best to add chemicals after youre done cooking, to avoid any chance of accidental contamination. These chemicals arent very toxic, so they wont produce dangerous smoke or harm the ground. white - magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt)yellow - sodium chloride (table salt)green - borax (laundry booster or roach powder), boric acid powder (disinfectant), or copper sulfate (algae treatment)blue - copper chloridepurple - potassium chloride (salt substitute)pink - lithium (from a battery) or lithium chloridered - strontium nitrate or strontium chloride (in emergency road flares)orange - iron oxide (rust) Most of these chemicals you can get at a grocery store. Others you can order online. There are also many more chemicals that produce colored fire, based on the flame test, but be sure to check how safe one of these other chemicals is before adding it to a campfire. A word of advice: if you can, avoid adding yellow (sodium chloride) because it will overpower all the other colors! Anyway, a campfire is mostly orange and yellow, so you dont really need those colors. My personal preference is just to use copper sulfate. Why? The salt manages to produce almost the entire spectrum of colors all on its own, plus copper is already present in relatively high concentration in soils. Its also pretty easy to find. Burn Driftwood If your campfire is located near the beach, you can get a colored fire simply by burning driftwood. Driftwood produces an eerie blue to purple flame. The natural salts that have soaked into the wood to produce the color also produce a smoke that isnt good to breathe, plus you should not cook over a driftwood campfire, but on a still night, the effect is breathtaking. Add Chemicals to Paper, Sawdust, or Pinecones Another way to make a colored campfire is to add pre-treated paper, sawdust, or pinecones to the fire. Make a mixture of the desired material with one of the coloring chemicals and a small amount of water or rubbing alcohol. Some chemicals dissolve better in rubbing alcohol, producing better results. Let the chemical solution soak in ââ¬â¹for several hours or overnight. Allow your material to dry. You may want to spread it out a bit to speed up the process. You can pack it in a paper or plastic bag, and carry it with you on your camping trip. Toss a treated pinecone, handful of sawdust, or crumpled sheet of treated paper into the campfire to color the flames.

Nodes are organized in small groups of piconets. Every piconet has a leading node known as master and other nodes in a piconet are referred as slaves. A node can belong to a multiple of piconets, and such a node is called as a bridge. Piconet contains a minimum of two and a maximum of eight peer devices. The devices will communicate using protocols that are part of the specification. Slaves do not directly communicate with each other but instead rely on the master as a carrying node.
